8 REASONS TO VISIT INTERLAKEN

There are so many reasons you have to put Interlaken on your itinerary. Here are eight to get you started!

SCHILTHORN & JAMES BOND

One of the highlights of the Lauterbrunnen Valley is a visit to the top of the Schilthorn.

You can relax in the revolving restaurant on Piz Gloria or have a little adventure at the Skyline Walk & Thrill Walk at the Birg station.

Schilthorn will give you unforgettable views of the highest peaks in the area!

And if you can't decide between the Schilthorn or Jungfraujoch, that post will help you decide.

MY INTERLAKEN REGION UNCOVERED GUIDE

Confused about what to see, where things are, where to stay in the Interlaken Region?

My personal Interlaken Region Guide (Interlaken, Grindelwald, Lauterbrunnen etc) covers everything you need to see in Interlaken and beyond.

You won't miss a thing! Includes:

  • The best mountain excursions
  • Stunning walks and hikes (easy to challenging)
  • Castles, gorges and suspension bridges
  • Waterfalls in Lauterbrunnen
  • Boat trips on lake Thun or Brienz
  • Where to stay and what is around each location
  • BONUSES:
    • Digital maps of each area
    • Train Pass coverage spreadsheet (so you can easily see what to pay for and what is free)
    • Mountain excursion opening dates (don't plan a mountain trip that is closed!)

FACT OF THE DAY

INTERLAKEN - BETWEEN TWO LAKES

The name Interlaken comes from the Latin for "between lakes" And lucky for us, it is between two stunning blue lakes. Lake Thun and Lake Brienz.

Both make for unforgettable day trips to the surrounding towns, castles and mountains (all of which is in my guide above).

WHAT IF IT RAINS?

Things to do in Interlaken in the rain!

Switzerland is stunning when it's sunny. But in the Alps, the weather can change fast. And a rainy day can seem like a real bummer when you are in the Interlaken area.

BUT don't sweat it, here are a whole bunch of things to do if you do get a rainy day.

18 May 2024 Of course you have tried Toblerone chocolate! But did you know that the mountain on it used to be the Matterhorn Reader? Long story short, the Swiss government was not happy with a non-Swiss manufacturer (made by Mondelez outside Switzerland) using Swiss "logos" like the country's most famous mountain! So now the mountain on the box is an imitation of the Matterhorn! Nonetheless, the Matterhorn is a sight to behold. It is almost the perfect pyramid mountain that we all drew when...
