Swiss Newsletter: Rainy days can be fun

Sometimes I feel like I am scaring people Reader

When I have my travel consultation calls with my clients, I always warn them to be prepared for the weather.

I don't want to ruin people's vacation and only put clouds on the horizon, but the weather in Switzerland can be "mixed". So, it's best to be prepared. And have the right clothes too!

That does not mean you can do anything on a rainy day. Instead you have to be just avoid heading up into the mountains and maybe do a city trip instead. Or perhaps a waterfall visit in Lauterbrunnen! It's wet anyway :>

These are the tips I give to my clients to help make their trips even better. And you can book a call with me too - if you need help planning or are confused about anything.

Either way, below I will share some rainy day options to keep you smiling on your Swiss adventure!

Trümmelbach

Waterfall in Lauterbrunnen

Buried deep in the walls of Lauterbrunnen are a series of huge waterfalls crashing through caves and corridors. The water comes from the Jungfrau area above and gushes some 20,000 litres of water (5000 Gallons) per second through the rock.

It's a unique, fun and foggy experience you won't forget.

BEATUS CAVES

A short ride from Interlaken are the Beatus Caves, one of the 10 largest caves in Switzerland. They are named after the venerated first apostle to begin converting the Swiss communities to Christianity. Apparently he also slayed a dragon!

MY INTERLAKEN REGION UNCOVERED GUIDE

My personal Interlaken Region Guide (Interlaken, Grindelwald, Lauterbrunnen etc) covers everything you need to see in Interlaken and beyond.

You won't miss a thing! Includes:

  • The best mountain excursions
  • Stunning walks and hikes (easy to challenging)
  • Castles, gorges and suspension bridges
  • Waterfalls in Lauterbrunnen
  • Boat trips on lake Thun or Brienz
  • Where to stay and what is around each location
  • BONUSES:
    • Digital maps of each area
    • Train Pass coverage spreadsheet (so you can easily see what to pay for and what is free)
    • Mountain excursion opening dates (don't plan a mountain trip that is closed!)

FACT OF THE DAY

FIFA IN ZURICH, SWITZERLAND

Although FIFA was established in Paris in 1904, its headquarters moved to Zurich in 1932 because of Switzerland's location in the center of Europe, its political neutrality, and because “it was accessible by train.” Both the headquarters and FIFA Museum are in Zurich, although only the museum is accessible to the public. The museum makes for a great rainy day idea in Zurich.

AND WHEN ITS SUNNY IN INTERLAKEN!

Go for Tandem Paraglide!

One of the highlights for most tourist in Interlaken is paragliding above the town and seeing the Alps in the distance. Not only is it safe, easy and affordable, you also land right in the center of town!
