Morning Reader

I went to visit my family in Australia back in February. It is a very long journey (24 hours on a plane) and leaves me jetlagged for a week.

Despite that, I try to go back as often as I can to see my family and friends.

The cost of the trip alone is staggering, so I try to keep my expenses under control while I am there. Staying with my family helps, of course, but you still want to enjoy yourself a little bit, right?

A few dinners out. Some favorite snacks from my childhood. A few trips to the beach. And of course, some texts to friends back home to share the experience with!

When I got back home this time, my phone bill was 3x what it normally is. Just from some texts, a few photos and a few phone calls. I had forgotten to check activate roaming package!

Another poor guy came to Switzerland from Florida and got an even bigger bill. One so big he could have even bought a small house with it!

Don't let it happen to you. I share some tips in that post above, and further down in the newsletter :> Let's not make those mobile carriers even richer!

Mountain Excursion

NIESEN, Near Interlaken

Can't make it to Cairo, but still love pyramids? The Niesen is the Pyramid of Switzerland! And has the longest staircase in the world to the top (there is a yearly run up it! Insane, right?)

The Panorama Trail up there is amazing, and there are more stunning Hikes around Interlaken below...

SWISS TOWNS

Davos, Not Just WEF

Every year the insanely rich and powerful descend upon Davos and take over the whole town (and empty the shops to make conference rooms - Ann worked there last year - it was nuts). It's called the World Economic Forum.

When the WEF is not on it is also a stunning mountain town and ski resort. Maybe you should visit?

SWISS TIP OF THE DAY

Mobile Calls & Data in Switzerland

Roaming plan from home? Or is there another solution!

YES. ESIMs are the new way to get cheaper data when you travel abroad. And some plans include calls and data, if you need it. Check out the options below, and maybe...No more data stress when you come to Switzerland!

SWISS IMAGE OF THE DAY (Submit yours)

I spent another week roaming around Interlaken, Lauterbrunnen and Grindelwald last year.

This picture is of the bridge to the old town in Interlaken - Unterseen!

Yes, Interlaken is more than just a gateway to the Alps. It has a cute old town, a stunning blue river (you can swim in during summer), and some other highlights right in the center of town—many of them FREE!

Here are some Free Things To Do In Interlaken!

NEED HELP PLANNING YOUR TRIP?

This Is How I Can Help...

MUSEUMS Of BASEL

More Than A Border City

There is a reason the rich and famous descend on Basel every year - Art Basel!

So, if you love museums, then Basel has a lot going for it, including the wacky Tinguely sculptures that are perhaps more toys than art pieces!

VIDEO OF THE DAY

Eurail vs Swiss Travel Pass - Which one?

Are you traveling through Europe and spending some time in Switzerland?

The Eurail pass is one of the best options, but you have to dig deeper to find out if it is worth it compared to the Swiss Travel Pass.

Lucky for you, I made a video about it :>

5 May 2024 Sometimes I feel like I am scaring people Reader When I have my travel consultation calls with my clients, I always warn them to be prepared for the weather. That does not mean you can do anything on a rainy day. Instead you have to be just avoid heading up into the mountains and maybe do a city trip...

30 April 2024 Weekends go to fast Reader We took our godson to our local castle ruin on the weekend. He is so into battles, swords, crossbows and the like that he could not get enough of it.
